When O2 originally launched their 5G network in October 2019, they made the promise that 20 towns and cities would be switched on by the end of 2019.
On 31 December, they announced that O2 5G is now available in 21 locations across the UK.
O2 kicked off their 5G journey by switching on the service in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Leeds and Slough.
Shortly afterwards, hotspots around Leicester and Lisburn went live, and now their customers in the following cities can use the O2 5G network:
This is just the start of their 5G network roll-out, which will reach customers in a total of 50 towns and cities by summer 2020.
However, O2 are continuing to strengthen their 4G network, with more than 19,800 postcodes across the UK receiving additional 4G capacity since last October.
5G Business Tariffs:
As an O2 Direct Partner, we will be providing 5G Business Tariffs to our customers when 5G is made available in the local area. These tariffs will suit businesses of every size, whatever their data requirements.
Matt Warman, Digital Minister, said:
"We want the UK to be a global leader in 5G and for the majority of the population to have access to a 5G signal by 2027. This investment by O2 is a great step toward rolling out the technology across our home nations, providing world-class infrastructure to help us grow our economy and compete strongly."
