The prestigious Women of Achievement Awards (WOAA) took place this year on Friday 16th November at the Double Tree by Hilton in Hull. The event takes place every other year, and The One Point have been sponsoring WOAA for many years now, so we were delighted as always to sponsor and attend the event again this year. The WOAA is an awards ceremony created by ‘Women in Business’ (WIB), a network established in 1996 for women in the business world to become members, joining in on interesting, informative and entertaining events. The aim of WIB is to provide support, friendship, and networking for decision-making women.
The event ran from 12pm-5pm, with a 3 course meal and the awards ceremony hosted by ITV Calendar’s Senior Correspondent, Fiona Dwyer. Every other year, the event hosts a guest speaker to share their life experiences of being a woman. This year’s guest speaker was Paralympian, Martine Wright, MBE, who is a survivor of the 7/7 London bombings in 2005. Her speech was extremely inspirational, emotional, with a subtle touch of comedy.
As always, there were numerous amazing women nominated to win multiple different categories of awards. Our own Managing Director of The One Point, Martin Lauer, was judging alongside; Samantha Barker (Chair of Women in Business 2018 and Chartered Tax Advisor at PCWM), Karen Newton (Operations Director for Spire Healthcare), Kathy Rowe OBE (Head of Safeguarding at Hull City), Blair Jacobs (Blair Jacobs Communications), and Tracy Hutty (Partner at Banks Cooper Associates).
