Microsoft buys SwiftKey the UK AI firm

SwiftKey an artificial intelligence firm based in the UK have confirmed they have been acquired by Microsoft. The deal according to the Financial Times is worth £175m.

SwiftKey has said that this is a "milestone" in their history. In a blog post by Swiftly founders Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlock, "Our mission is to enhance interaction between people and technology. We think these are a perfect match, and we believe joining Microsoft is the right next stage in our journey".

The company are best known for their predictive keyboard which has been installed on millions of Smartphone devices. The acquisition of the company producing this software, by Microsoft, reflects their new mobile strategy - to build a range of productivity apps that can be used on any kind of device.
