Google announced yesterday that Android Pay, the payment platform for Android smartphones is to launch in the UK in just a few months.
Working much like Apple Pay, users with compatible phones can use their smartphones to make purchases in supported merchants. Among those that will support Android pay are popular brands like Boots, BP, Costa, Greggs and many more well know shops, bars and restaurants.
In addition, further support for UK shoppers will be available to Android users with app developers getting ready to accept Android payment right from launch day with apps allowing in-app purchases using the new payment method.
When it launches in the UK, Android Pay will work with MasterCard and Visa credit and debit cards from banks including HSBC, Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, Lloyds Bank, M&S Ban, MBNA and Nationwide Building Society.
The move comes after Google recorded 1.5 million registrations to Android Pay per month and an expansion of supporting retailers.
