Malware, ransomware, and malicious macros are on the rise. A quarterly report produced by a leading security researcher shows that cybercriminal attacks in the form of malware have reached an all-time high with 4 new samples of malware reported to them every second. Altogether this represents an increase of 10%.

For mobile users, particularly those using the Android platform, an even sharper increase has been reported. A record 21.1 million samples have been reported marking a 60% increase in mobile targeted malware attacks. It is expected this rise resulted from a rapid increase in Android screen, locking technology.

Amongst the most vulnerable sectors for malware attacks are public sectors and health organisations after reporting 23 million in the past 4 months malware samples report representing a 40% increase.

Cybercriminals continue to find ever more innovative ways to cause chaos and disruption to business and organisations across all sectors.
