About Freedom Festival:
"Now in its 12th year, Freedom Festival is an established fixture on the national and international cultural calendar. This year we're extending the celebrations beyond a weekend to five days of wonder, as we expand our indoor programme to give more people the opportunity to see extraordinary performances from award-winning artists from across the world."
"A festival born from the city of Hull and its association with the abolitionist movement, themes of empowerment, activism and the potential of community. The festival programme is playfully woven together with world-class street theatre, circus, dance, physical theatre, music, talks, visual art, exhibitions, debates and so much more."
"While last year's festival attracted an audience of over 132,000 visitors, and resulted in a £4.3m boost to the city's economy, the success of Freedom Festival goes way beyond the numbers."
"It is by far the human impact, the sense of pride, hope and optimism that permeates the city during the festival weekend that offers up an insight into the potential, long term transformational impact of the Freedom Festival and its year-round activity."
"An international arts festival where the city is our stage, our aim is to continue to delight, entertain and surprise audiences, as we do justice to the incredible appetite that Hull has."
"Join us for an adventure in Freedom, as we celebrate through artistic and cultural expression, Hull's independent spirit as we bring renowned national and international artists to the city while providing significant opportunities for local and regional artists."
