Twitter has teamed with Foursquare to begin to roll out a new feature adding location tagging to tweets. Twitter has recently announced the news it is to team with Foursquare but has bypassed the usual approach of teasing the addition of a new feature.
Foursquare is an app designed to help its users discover new places and in 2009 introduced the real-time check-in ability for sharing locations with friends using social media.
Useful applications of the feature for Twitter users will be to spark moments where location data can be used to build a feed of data based around a specific event. Furthermore, tweets generated from people actually tweeting from a place where an event or trending topic is taking place can be separated from those who are just tweeting about the topic - meaning users have a new way of searching for original news.
The feature can be used by adding tags to tweets with your location with can be visible to some as they scroll through your timeline. According to TechCrunch, it will be iOS users that will get hold of the feature before this is rolled out to other platforms.
