The One Point and IT@Spectrum sponsor digitalisation of historic documents

9th May 2018

The One Point and IT @ Spectrum have jointly sponsored Burton Constable Hall as they commemorate 300 years since the birth of, landscape architect and ‘England’s Greatest Gardner’, Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

Burton Constable Hall is surrounded by 330 acres of stunning historic grade II* listed parkland. It is this parkland that is the best-documented example of a landscape worked by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown!

From 1772 to 1782  Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown was employed to oversee the transformation of the Burton Constable landscape. During his visits over this time, the house steward recorded the minutes of the meetings under the title ‘Hints from Mr. Brown’ or ‘Mr. Brown’s Directions’.

With help from The One Point and IT@Spectrum, these surviving documents have now been transformed into a digital flipbook.

The Two Hull businesses provided technical expertise, access to industry leading scanning devices and software. Firstly the documents were scanned from The View, a working showroom featuring  IT@Spectrum’s industry-leading Cannon devices. From here The One Point’s Digital team formatted the documents preparing them to be transformed into a digital flipbook format using Flipbuilder and then made this accessible to be viewed online by all.

It is now possible to view the Mr. Brown’s Direction’s digital flipbook online for a rare and wonderful insight into how England’s greatest gardener executed his grand schemes for a country house estate.
