The One Point's David Carr starts a code club for a local primary school

Tuesday 21st of April 2015

We are again providing support and expertise to the local community, Today our lead developer David Carr is starting a code club.

What is Code Club?

Code Club is a nationwide network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11

"We create projects for our volunteers to teach at after school coding clubs or at non-school venues such as libraries. The projects we make teach children how to program by showing them how to make computer games, animations and websites. Our volunteers go to their local club for an hour a week and teach one project a week.

Each term the students will progress and learn more whilst at the same time using their imaginations and making creative projects. Terms 1 & 2 use Scratch to teach the basics of programming. Term 3 teaches the basics of web development using HTML and CSS. Term 4 teaches Python and so on."

Why are we supporting Code Club?

We believe been able to code is an important and useful skill to have, learning to program helps to strengthen problem solving and logical thinking skills.

David Carr said, “I’m thrilled to be in a position to help introduce programming to children. Been able to code opens new possibilities in careers and also helps for day-to-day problem solving, which can aid many professions. It’s also a lot of fun!”

David writes a lot of web development tutorials and runs a PHP developers help group on Facebook, starting a Code Club is a natural progression to online learning.

At The One Point we are always looking at ways we can give back to our community, we think this is a fantastic way for children to learn programming and improve their future careers at the same time.
