The One Point support Wilberforce College Kit Car project with IT and mentorship

Over the coming months, The One Point will be working closely with Wilberforce college as they prepare to build and race a Kit Car. Once built this will be raced in organised motor circuit events, taking place next year. Wilberforce college will compete against 6 other local schools in one event that will be open to the general public with an excellent attendance expected.

Jonathan Butler from Wilberforce College said “Our car chassis is nearly built and there are plans in place to design a lightweight type body shell. Our students are also looking into redesigning a tubular aluminium / carbon fibre space frame to replace the stock one we have bought.”

The project organised by Greenpower Education Trust is intended to inspire young people to view a career in engineering as fascinating, relevant and dynamic. It is their objective to advance education in the subjects of sustainable engineering and technology to young people and do so by providing similar projects in 500 schools and colleges across the country.

Yesterday, from The One Point team, our MD Martin Lauer, Senior IT Engineer Chris Roberts, and Software Development Apprentice Jack Batty attended a Greenpower Education Trust training event at Guildhall for mentors including several other local businesses taking part. The training is designed to help them develop skills for working with the young people in a classroom environment before they begin the first mentoring session to take place tomorrow.

Jack says, “It’s amazing to be involved in this project, I have always been interested in Kit Cars and to have an opportunity to pass on skills and knowledge is fantastic”.
