Office 2010 is nearing ever closer to the end of its 10-year lifecycle.
Because of this, Microsoft is urging users to switch to their newer subscription-based Office 365 ProPlus bundle, saying it's the "future of Office".
Microsoft announced that extended support for Office 2010 will come to an end as of October 13, 2020. From this date, Office 2010 will no longer receive tech support, bug fixes or security patches.
Although Microsoft is trying to encourage users to migrate to their newer Office 365 ProPlus bundle, customers can still choose to migrate to Office 2019 instead.
However, Microsoft have highlighted the fact that, unlike Office 2019, the Office 365 ProPlus bundle is regularly updated, whereas Office 2019 has remained the same since its launch in October 2018.
Many factors can play in to the decision of which Office package users will switch to; one being that Office 2019 is a one-time purchase package, whereas the Office 365 ProPlus bundle employs a per-user subscription model.
This bundle includes full versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, Access and Skype for Business.
Not only this, but Office 365 ProPlus allows users to install Office on up to 5 devices, including PC, Macs and mobile devices.
Jared Spataro, the corporate vice president for Microsoft 365, said in a blog post on the Microsoft site: "Upgrade to Office 365 ProPlus, a product built for today's challenges and literally getting better all the time, as we continue innovating across - and investing in - the experience. Consider just a few benefits: AI and machine learning to advance creativity and innovation, real-time collaboration across apps, and Microsoft Teams as the hub for teamwork. With built-in, cloud-powered security to protect your data, Office 365 ProPlus also provides the peace of mind that comes with knowing your business will not only be productive, but safe."
While many will look at Office 2019 as the modern equivalent of Office 2010, Microsoft hopes that users will want to sway towards its new cloud, AI and collaborative features that are not present in Office 2019.
